Please note: Born on the Fourth of July, Stan Masters (1922-2005) tells the story of St. Louis and, by extension, America. His quiet watercolors of the City, Brentwood, Kirkwood and Maplewood tell the story of Main Street USA.

Here, Masters takes us to the Cat's Meow in Soulard, where at the end of a hard day's work people come together for a cold beer, as they have for generations. Never mind the Pabst Blue Ribbon signs and the fact that the Anheuser-Bush Brewery is two blocks away. This is America and we are all Americans, proud and grateful.
